Story

Life changed overnight when Sophie was diagnosed with cancer—a devastating shock, especially as she and Jordan had only been married four months prior. Facing an incredibly tough journey ahead, they made the difficult decision to seek private treatment, giving Sophie the best possible chance. However, without critical illness insurance, this has come at a significant financial cost.

Sophie’s private health insurance covered her awake craniotomy in December and the radiotherapy treatment, which she completed on February 26th. The insurance also covered her flights to Southampton and back, but unfortunately, it did not cover her husband’s or family’s travel or accommodation costs, adding further financial strain.

Despite their best efforts, the financial burden is overwhelming. With high monthly mortgage payments and four children to care for, Sophie and her family are struggling to make ends meet. While Jersey Cancer Relief provided some short-term support, there is no government funding available beyond a short-term incapacity allowance of just £280 per week. Unfortunately, because they own their home, they are not eligible for income support.

Due to the financial strain, Sophie has now had to return to public healthcare for chemotherapy, which will continue for the next 12 months.

This family has spent the past few months selflessly fundraising and supporting others, never asking for help themselves. Now, it’s time for us to support them. Reaching our goal of £9,000 will help relieve some of their financial stress, allowing Sophie to focus on her treatment without the added burden of worrying about how to keep their home running.

Let’s give Sophie the chance to put herself first for a change. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference.

Thank you for your kindness and support.
