Story
During the Covid pandemic, a then-96-year-old Peter Valentine, war veteran and local Eastbourne resident, walked the incredible total of 96 miles to raise money for the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital, and in turn do his bit to say thank you to the staff of the Eastbourne DGH.
Now in his 101st year, Peter has challenged himself again. Once a month, for every month of 2025, he is walking from his home to the hospital, donating £10 to the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital on arrival, and then walking home again. His target, it goes without saying, is £120.
This page has been set up in the hope that the community can support both Peter, and the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital, by matching the £120 he intends to donate himself. To tell him that his efforts are so appreciated by the Eastbourne community that his donation has in fact doubled would, we are sure, put quite the spring in his step.
Even just a pound or two, and some fantastic words of encouragement, by enough people would see this achieved in no time. Please do give what you can.
Re-acquainting himself with the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital to let us know he was planning this next challenge, Peter began his letter,
"Dear Friends, I have not forgotten you - indeed, you are always in my heart."
Peter is very much in ours. We wish him the very best of luck in his challenge, through the seasons, and thank anyone in a position to support him on his way.
