Story
Machen cricket club were part of the inaugural "Walking in the Valleys" for young cricketers fundraising event last year along with 4 other clubs Cardiff, Pontypridd, Hopkinstown and Abercynon which brought these local rivals on the pitch closer together and raised vital revenue for youth cricket. This year the same 5 clubs will be joined by Ebbw Vale, Black wood, Porth, Upper Rhondda, Mountain Ash, SEWACO and Radyr as we again start at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff taking a slightly different route via some of the clubs mentioned above and eventually finishing in Merthyr over the 4 days from 30th March to 2nd April.
Cricket in Machen dates backs far as 1848 and is the last surviving club in the Rhymney valley which is why this event is so important to keep clubs like ours on the map and maintain our history in the game.
Machen is a small village club and although the senior sides are improving our youth set up has only just been reintroduced over the last few years with the introduction of the national Allstars and Dynamo's schemes by the ECB, this is an area of key focus for the club moving forwards to preserve the clubs history.
All money raised from this event will go towards vital new youth equipment as we look to expand our youth membership across all age groups.
