The Kernos Centre charity has been operating in Friars Street Sudbury since April 2003, providing professional counselling sessions to both children and adults with emotional and psychological difficulties. In particular, to help those not provided for through current statutory provision, especially those who have little or no means of financing counselling support. We support and enable vulnerable people to work with their problems, improving their mental health, regaining their health and well-being. We work with clients from 5yrs old and the oldest so far is 93 years old.Our work is focused on supporting the adults, children and young people from our local community and enabling them to function. Safeguarding when there is Domestic Violence or neglect or helping to prevent self-harm or suicide. Mental & Psychological distress can affect every area of a person’s life and drastically impact on their ability to function, in school, at work, at home and in the community. Kernos is committed to offering this service to everyone but especially to people who are disadvantaged socially and economically who are not in a position to make much of a contribution, but cannot get help on the NHS. We passionately believe in providing equal access to all, and not to just those who can afford to pay for therapy, or that tick the right boxes for the NHS. That is why the Kernos Centre was formed, and why we still exist today. Kernos Centre still gets no funding for NHS referrals received despite, NHS staff telling people to come to us.
