I'm raising £10000 to support humanitarian aid for victims of the Myanmar Earthquake

Story

The earthquake in Myanmar has been devastating, with thousands dead and many more buried under the rubble, support is critical to prevent even more deaths due to lack of medical resources and essential support.

The regions of Sagaing and Mandalay have been hit particularly and aid has struggled to get through. Locals are working to rescue people often with just their bare hands, while thousands have been made homeless. Bodies are rotting, threatening a secondary health emergency to compound the catastrophe. The situation is grim and every bit of support will make a difference.

Beneficiaries:

This fundraiser is working directly with local student groups and grassroots civil society in the most affected areas who are working on delivering humanitarian aid : emergency food supplies, drinking water and water sources, medical necessities (medicines, oral rehydration salts, sanitary products, etc.). They are also supporting dead body management, rescue and relief operations, temporary shelters and solar supplies) to those in need. I have personal and trusted connections with student unions, civil society groups and community organisations on the ground in Mandalay and Sagaing and will channel funding directly to them. Updates will be posted as money is sent on a rolling basis.

1. Saya Foundation. A local NGO working to deliver medical aid and supplies for community clinics across Mandalay and Sagaing as well as food and essentials for families and communities in need.

2. Student Groups in Mandalay and Sagaing. These groups are providing logistical support in delivery of essential items to rescue effort and humanitarian emergencies.

Civil society and student groups themselves have been made homeless and injured by the earthquake. Despite this, they are continuing to be a part of humanitarian aid and rescue efforts in the City, giving everything they can to save lives in cities and towns that have largely been forgotten.

We're asking you to generously donate as much as you can to this cause. There is a sense of urgency, and every minute counts.

About me

I'm Ewan Cameron, researcher of Social Policy at the University of Edinburgh. Between 2010 and 2017 I lived and worked in Myanmar, as a teacher and consultant working with civil society and community schools. During this time I forged close connections with grassroots groups that I maintain to this day, and I am still actively holding online classes for marginalised groups in the country.

As a writer I have published numerous articles on Myanmar, with a focus on Education. for both Burmese and international magazines and journals.

I am in daily contact with groups on the ground working to get humanitarian aid to those in need.
